Accessibility Policy

Last Updated 12 April 2026

My Commitment

I am committed to making my wildlife photography workshops and guiding experiences as accessible and inclusive as reasonably possible. How I do this is set-out in this Accessibility Policy.

Under the Equality Act 2010, I have a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that people with disabilities are not placed at a substantial disadvantage when accessing my services. I take this responsibility seriously. But I also aim to go further: I strive to make my workshops as welcoming and accessible as possible for everyone, regardless of ability or needs.

I recognise that everyone experiences the outdoors differently, and I will always aim to work with participants to understand their requirements and explore how I can support their participation.

At the same time, my activities take place in natural, often remote environments, and some limitations to accessibility are unavoidable. I aim to be open, honest, and supportive in helping you decide what is right for you.

Nature of My Activities

My workshops and guiding sessions take place in outdoor locations across Scotland. These environments can include:

  • Uneven, rough, or pathless terrain
  • Wet, boggy, or slippery ground
  • Hills or coastal areas
  • Exposure to changing weather conditions (cold, wind, rain)
  • Early starts and extended periods outdoors

Wildlife photography also involves a degree of unpredictability, including waiting periods and changing plans depending on conditions and animal activity.

I provide detailed information about each workshop to help you make an informed decision about suitability.

Accessibility Levels

To support informed choice, my workshops may be described using general accessibility levels:

  • Low Mobility / Accessible
Minimal walking, generally flat terrain, often vehicle-based or using accessible locations such as hides or roadside viewpoints.
  • Moderate
Short walks on uneven ground, flexible pace, some physical demands.
  • Challenging
Longer distances, rough terrain, hills, and higher physical demands.

If you are unsure which level is suitable for you, I strongly encourage you to get in touch.

My Approach to Accessibility

I aim to take reasonable steps to reduce barriers for participants, in line with my legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010. This may include:

  • Discussing your needs before booking
  • Adapting locations or routes where possible
  • Allowing additional time or a flexible pace where practical
  • Providing clear verbal explanations and demonstrations
  • Offering written information before or after sessions where helpful

I am always happy to explore options with you, and my goal is to go beyond legal requirements wherever possible to make your experience enjoyable and accessible.

Mobility and Physical Access

I aim to be transparent about physical requirements. Information provided for each workshop may include:

  • Approximate walking distances
  • Terrain type and conditions
  • Elevation or difficulty level
  • Availability of nearby parking
  • Access to facilities such as toilets or shelter (where available)

Some locations may not be suitable for wheelchair users or those with significant mobility limitations. Where possible, I will suggest alternative options that may be more accessible.

Sensory and Cognitive Accessibility

I recognise that accessibility is not only physical.

I aim to support participants by:

  • Providing clear, structured information about the day
  • Explaining what to expect, including timing and activity levels
  • Offering both verbal and practical instruction
  • Keeping group sizes small to allow more individual support

If you have specific sensory, communication, or neurodivergent needs, please let me know in advance so I can consider how best to support you.

Support Persons

Participants are welcome to attend with a support person where appropriate. Please contact me in advance to discuss arrangements so I can ensure the best possible experience for everyone involved.

Health and Safety

Your safety is a top priority. Outdoor environments carry inherent risks, including slips, trips, and exposure to weather conditions.

Participants are responsible for:

  • Ensuring they are physically able to take part in the chosen activity
  • Bringing appropriate clothing and equipment
  • Informing me of any relevant medical conditions or requirements

I carry basic safety equipment and will have procedures in place appropriate to the location and activity.

Communication and Booking

I aim to make communication as accessible as possible.

I encourage all participants to discuss any accessibility requirements before booking. This helps me provide clear advice and explore suitable options.

If you have any further questions about this policy please do not hesitate to contact me
